Proper office lighting isn't a luxury; it's a regulatory requirement and a critical driver of employee productivity. Poor lighting causes eye strain, headaches, and fatigue.
Standard Lux Levels
The European standard EN 12464-1 dictates the required illuminance (lux) for various tasks. More difficult visual tasks require higher lux levels.
| Task / Area | Required Lux | Required UGR |
|---|---|---|
| General Office Work / Desks | 500 lx | < 19 |
| Corridors / Circulation | 100 - 200 lx | < 22 |
| Technical Drawing / CAD | 750 lx | < 16 |
| Filing / Copy Rooms | 300 lx | < 22 |
Understanding UGR (Unified Glare Rating)
UGR measures the psychological glare of a lighting installation. A high UGR means the lights are blinding or reflect harshly off computer screens. For offices, UGR must be 19 or lower. We achieve this using micro-prismatic diffusers or deep-recessed reflectors.
